Goals are the way to your desired result. Everyone has goals in life, whether they realize it or not. Learning how to set realistic goals is what you will master from this article.
Goals can be of so many ways; from personal to business to spiritual.
The key to happiness in life is deciding clearly what it is that you want. What makes you happy? What you daydream and think about before you sleep? Those are your goals.
They can also be short-term or long-term. They can be done sometimes in a few hours, sometimes in months, and other times in years.
It all depends on the effort you put into them and how realistic they are. Because sometimes, things truly take time to be achieved.
How To Set Realistic Goals
By setting goals you’ll start feeling a sense of purpose. You will find your “why” and when you get tired you will remember why you started. The goal will help you keep pushing forward.
But just thinking about your goals will not help you achieve them if you don’t put in the action.
Writing your goals down is only half of the challenge. The other half is your work towards them.
Hope you got my point because wishing something is easy but putting in the action, it’s a lot harder.
It is just like you read a lot of freebies and not applying everything you learn. So why bother reading them if you are not going to implement the tips?
Let’s say you just opened a new Instagram account. You can’t expect to have 1000 followers in 2 days because it’s not realistic.
But you can put the effort into it, connect with people and make yourself seen as much as possible.
And in 1 month it is very possible that you can achieve 1000 followers if your content is great and you truly put all your focus, time, and energy into growing your account. Because that is your goal.
So let’s recap: You need to write down your goals; either on your journal or your laptop. Along with it you also need a strategy to achieve it.
This blog post will teach you what you need to do to achieve your goals, but it all depends on you. You either read and put action into it, or you read and forget it. Up to you, my dear reader.
The steps to achieve your realistic goals
1. Plan your day in advance – Block time for your priorities and goals. Make a schedule and think about what you are going to do the next day. If you can, do it in the morning or at whatever time of the day you feel the most productive.
For me, it’s between 6 am-12 pm. I choose to work between these hours on my goals, and the rest of the day I focus on doing other essential things.
For example, my focus now is my blog. Content writing, brainstorming, studying something new is what I do on a daily basis. I actually do it whenever I can focus and have free time.
Because this is my passion, I dedicate most of my time to my goals.
You need to do the same. Find out if your goal is related to your passion, to your dream life, your health, or your finances.
Perhaps, another goal of yours can be losing weight. You might feel it’s quite difficult to achieve.
Because most of your energy will go into your first, biggest goal. From my experience, it is better to focus on one thing at a time.
Don’t have 10 long-term goals at a time as your life and brain might become burned out and you will quit achieving your goals.
But multiple short-term goals are ideal. For example, I plan on learning to cook Vietnamese food just like the locals (luckily my Vietnamese boyfriend is teaching me and he’s really great at cooking even when we don’t find all the ingredients!).
This is a short-term goal that can be achieved fast. One recipe every day or every week.
However, a goal that might take me months is learning the Vietnamese language.
So as you see I have a short-term goal which is cooking Vietnamese food and 2 long-term goals – being a successful blogger and learning the Vietnamese language. These both take time depending on how much work I put into it.
So you need a schedule in place. Know your most productive hours. Or whenever you have free time, don’t waste it scrolling on social media;
Work towards your goals. You need to create habits and take small steps at a time.
If your goal is to save money you make a habit of not ordering food or eating out. And better shop for groceries and eat at home; It’s not only cheaper but also healthier.
Or, don’t go on trips every week, go every 2 weeks. Don’t buy clothes when you don’t need them, only when you need or truly like them. Remember that small habits will take you far.
2. Work on your mindset – Yes, I said writing down your goals will help, but a vision board would help you even more. This way, you can keep reminding yourself of your goals every day so they stay at the top of your mind.
Whatever you do, don’t lose motivation. If you do, your goals will fail. Even when you don’t feel like it, your goal is not a hobby. It is the way to a happier life.
So work towards it. I might repeat the word “work” a lot, but that’s the truth. When you set a goal- you set a commitment to achieve it.
A good way is either finding an online buddy or real-life friend that can cheer you up and celebrate with you every small step you take to achieve your goal.
This way, they will hold you accountable and you will feel a purpose to achieve your goals, besides your “why”.
Hiring a coach or mentor and using a progress tracking app it’s also a good way to keep on track with your goals. If your goal is really a big one, you may opt for all of the above ways.
The most important step is to stop with limiting beliefs. When you feel a negative thought about yourself entering your mind, either ignore it or replace it with the opposite- a positive affirmation about it.
Don’t let some thoughts destroy your bright future. I used to do this and in fact, the mindset is the biggest problem for us, humans.
Everything starts from the mind. Learning how to control it, it’s not gonna be easy but you absolutely need to do it if you want to achieve your goals.
